April 2023

  • Received the award judged by poet Alice Friman for outstanding undergraduate writing in a poem titled "Beyond the Fence."

    • Judge Alice Friman on "Beyond the Fence":

      • "I chose "Beyond the Fence" for its imagery—how the author captured not only the reality of childhood's "play," but also chidlhood's scale: how big and important things used to be, and how in adulthood they shrink. There's a sweet sadness running through the piece because of the vividness of the childhood imagery—the puddles that become quicksand, the leaky pool that's transformed into a wild sea. Each image rendered so strongly I could see them."
